Frequently Asked Questions
When planning the short and long terms goals for MarTID, our belief was that it would be best to begin simply and grow over time as the utility and value of the database become more and more clear to the community. The growth we envision includes both depth of information as well as breadth, to address education and training needs/approaches in the wider maritime community.
The survey has been successfully tested end-to-end in many places round the world. However, we recognize that there may still be issues that need correcting. We run continuous checks to ensure that the system is operating as required and will continue to do so.
However, the problem may be due to a local issue on a respondent’s computer e.g. the use of a specific browser. Please try answering the survey using a different browser.
No part of the data that is collected, nor the resulting analysis will be sold. The sole purpose of the annual surveys is to provide to the maritime community insights into training practices, perspectives and approaches for the benefit of the whole community. We do this, recognizing that it is in the interest of all stakeholders that – with respect to the competence of seafarers – the best solutions are shared for safety on the oceans and for the sustainable and efficient use of maritime resources and stewardship of the oceans. All reports will be made available on the website and free-to-access media, for the benefit of the global community.
The partners are expressly forbidden to:
Sell, give or otherwise disclose the non-anonymised raw data to anyone;
Use the raw data in a proprietary way — for example, as a source of sales prospects.
All survey participants/respondents will have access to the reports that result from the survey, primarily via the MarTID website (www.martid.org) and also through appropriate free-to-access media. Since this is a completely non-commercial initiative, there will be no cost to access the annual reports.
After complete data analysis by the MarTID team, core selections of the raw data sets, in aggregate and anonymised form, may be made available to the wider maritime community in a manner that ensures the proper, informative and non-commercial use of the data.
Access to the non-anonymised raw data will under no circumstances be made available to survey participants, as this will compromise the confidentiality guarantees assured all respondents.
